Autumn - 30-09-17 (Shoot 4)

Autumn - 30-09-17

Image Bank

The photographs above have inspired me in my work due their vibrant and autumnal colours. I want the orange, yellow and red leaves to be prominent in my work so to show the season I have taken them in. Again for this shoot I want to include my sister as the subject so to give the images a focus. This furthers my exploration into photographing people in nature.

Images that require Improvement
When reviewing 'Shoot 4' I realised that my images didn't exactly go to plan. The overall outcome wasn't what I set out to achieve. Although I think the idea behind this shoot was good I also think it needs more development and the images need refining. I believe that I need to go out and retry this 'Autumn' shoot by setting up the same images but with more concentration on the background and camera settings in order for the images to be the best they can be. Therefore, the images that require improvement are the best images from the shoot as these were the only photos that went well but still aren't as good as I want them to be.

AO1 - Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
Although this shoot wasn't focused on a particular photographer it was still slightly influenced by Carlotta Manaigo whose work focuses on a person in relation to their surroundings by working with colour and brightness. I feel that this has been incorporated into my work however not through the use of Diptych just through the use of subject placement.

AO2 - Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
This shoot was taken freehand (with no tripod). I believe this worked well for this particular idea as I was using my sister as the subject therefore in order for me to get some of the shots I wanted I was able to freely and quickly move my camera to where I needed it to be however I think a tripod would have restricted this. The camera settings that I used varied massively as I was shooting in all different lightings and in various locations. For example as you can see some of the photographs were taken against the sun and some were taken away from the sun, this was due to what I felt looked right at the time. As I mentioned in the 'Images that requite improvement' section of this post I will try to reshoot some of my best images as some need to be against a different background or in different camera settings in order for them to be some of my best pieces. I will be doing this in the weeks to come and add these new and improved images to this post. This is how I will show the refining of my ideas.

AO3 - Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I think this shoot reflects the work of Carlotta Manaigo due to the concept of people and place that creates the basis of her work. In this shoot I tried to make my subject look like she belonged in the environment she was in, rather than have her stand out and look isolated from it. I believe this follows the style that Manaigo has, whereby her subjects are put in a collage next to an image of a landscape or nature that reflects the way the person appears. This is mainly through her use of colour, a theme that ran through my shoot 'Autumn', I had my subject in a tan skirt that reflects the orange, red and yellows of the autumn leaves. Although my work reflects Manaigo's it is still different as mine doesn't display diptych's instead both elements are presented together inane photograph.

AO4 - Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate makes connections between visual and other elements.
I believe that I had the right intention when setting out for this shoot. I had a clear idea in my mind that I would try to record Autumn colours in relation to my subject. This has come out in my work in some of the better images, however it still isn't portrayed on the level that I want to achieve in my work. In regards of my work being a good response, I do not agree as I believe there are major improvements to be made in most of the images therefore I will be reshooting some of the photographs that I think have potential.
